Ya Like Jazz? | LEGO® Fan CoLab Project Kick-off

TL;DR: WMLUG is honored to be chosen as part of the LEGO® Fan CoLab community project celebrating 20 years of the LEGO® Modular Building Collection.

11.5 Million LEGO® Bricks

This is a celebration of 20 years of Modulars, but it is also a celebration of the people who have built, displayed, talked about and been inspired by them over the past two decades.

WMLUG is excited to be one of the Recognized LEGO® Fan Communities selected to participate in The LEGO® Group’s Global Celebration of 20 Years of the LEGO® Modular Building Collection. Twenty Two Recognized LEGO® Fan Communities from around the world are participating in this project scheduled for presentation in 2027. Together these communities will each recreate a building from the Modular Building Collection. The entire project is estimated to include 11.5 Million LEGO® Bricks, enough bricks stacked end-to-end to reach from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Chicago, Illinois!

We’re Going 4x!

11.5 Million LEGO® bricks is a lot. What will all these bricks be used for? Every selected community is responsible for building a 4x version of their assigned Modular Building. That means for every brick wide, tall, and deep WMLUG will need to create a version that is 4x the original.

To get an idea of the scale of this project, imagine your standard 2×4 lego brick is now 8×16! The result will be a finished project that is approximately 64 times the volume of the original sets.

Which Modular did WMLUG Get?

WMLUG was chosen to build a 4x version of set 10312 Jazz Club. First released in 2023 the Jazz Club features three floors packed with many different minifig businesses and interesting rooms including a tailor’s shop, pizzeria, ready room, green house, and more!

The Challenge

While the communities will work within shared standards to ensure that when the buildings can come together, [and] they create a cohesive collection, each group will have significant creative freedom to determine how its building comes to life, while maintaining the overall exterior DNA of these iconic buildings.

In the Details Going From Small to Big

From the pizza on the counter to the Jazz Club sign members of WMLUG will be bringing every part of the modular to life. We are still in the planning phase of the project, but you can catch a glimpse of our process so far below.

I’m excited to see the Jazz Club come to life in 4x! I previously built a P!NK recolor of the Jazz Club for WMLUG’s P!NK City Project and am excited to continue learning more about this great set.

Our plan is to join together with other Recognized LEGO® Fan Communities around the world and present many of the 4x Modular Buildings at BrickWorld Chicago 2027. The LEGO® Fan CoLab is a new program from The LEGO® Group that recognizes communities and creators around the world. WMLUG is a Recognized LEGO® Fan Community and we are excited to continue participating in projects with other communities around the world!
